Common Causes of Diarrhea

There are several reasons for this. Some of the reasons are as follows:

1. Infection

Diarrhea is often caused by a viral, bacterial, or parasitic infection. The most common causes of viral diarrhea are rotavirus, norovirus, and adenovirus. Bacterial causes of diarrhea include Campylobacter, Salmonella, Shigella, and Escherichia coli.

Parasitic causes include Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica, and Cryptosporidium. Infections can be spread through contaminated food and water, close contact with an infected person, or contact with an animal that has the infection.

2. Food Intolerance

Diarrhea can also be caused by food intolerances, such as lactose intolerance or celiac disease. Lactose intolerance is when the body cannot digest lactose, a sugar in dairy products.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder in which the body cant tolerate gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. Both conditions can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, and gas.

3. Medication Side Effects

Certain medications can cause diarrhea. Antibiotics are the most common culprit, as they can kill off beneficial bacteria in the gut and disrupt the balance of the intestinal flora. Diarrhea can also be a side effect of antibiotics, antiinflammatory drugs, cancer treatments, and antacids containing magnesium.

4. Stress

Stress can have a major impact on the digestive system and can lead to diarrhea. Stress can cause the muscles in the intestines to contract more frequently and with more intensity, leading to diarrhea. It can also affect the balance of bacteria in the intestines, leading to digestive issues.

5. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

IBS is a chronic condition that affects the large intestine and can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, and gas. It is thought to be caused by a mix of physical and psychological factors, such as changes in the balance of bacteria in the gut, food intolerances, and stress. IBS can be managed with diet and lifestyle changes, as well as medications.

  15. I’m having the same problem! I’ve been sick for a few weeks but have had diarrhea for three days and I’m going on a three day camping trip. Let me know what worked for you!

  16. Thanks for the post.
You should add this one: sweet potatoes and yams. Better, healthier and more effective than white rice. Rmthey work really well to bind things in the intestines and nutritionally rich.
Just boil them and and with or without a little salt.
    Also: avocados.
And for liquid, it is wise to add that water may not be sufficient to rehydrate the body. It is recommended to add a little salt ad honey (preferable) or sugar in the water to replenish the body with salts and electrolytes.
And lastly, when eating an apple, grate it first and let it sit until it turns brown and eat it plain or with plain yogurt.

  17. I have been fighting with Diarreah for quite some time. I live in Texas and eat almost daily @ a Mexican style restaurant. While different foods each day I get to the store in travel by the City Bus.
I don’t drive because I have Epilepsy. My Doctor recommended a pill for diabetes called Loperamide
to take 1 tablet 4 times per day. I tried that for 2 months and it simply did not work!! My daughter then
took me to a different Doctor & he recommended the same pill but to take 2 in the morning & then 1
pill each time I had to go to the stool but no more than 7 pills/day. I tried it like that for 3 months but
still no control. I can only figure what is causing the Diarreah is the amount of walking that I am forced
to do to get to & from each Bus stop & then about the 4 block walk to my house to get home. If I am lucky to get a ride from a friend @ times from my house and back home, I have no TROUBLE !!!
